This year UT President William Powers announced plans for outsourcing and consolidation that will cut jobs on campus. In this lecture and discussion, University of Texas alum Robert Ovetz will discuss the historical background to the current downsizing and privatization plan. Ovetz’s doctoral dissertation, “Entrepreneurialization, Resistance, and the Crisis of the Universities: A Case Study of the University of Texas at Austin,” includes analysis of UT’s budget, a history of corporate involvement on the campus, and ways to resist plans that don’t serve students or a public university.
The event is sponsored by the Texas State Employees Union and the Graduate Student Assembly. More information online.
