Torin Monahan, associate professor in Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina, will speak on the Department of Homeland Security’s fusion centers and the voracious collection and promiscuous sharing of data that define contemporary security organizations. Monahan, the author of Surveillance in the Time of Insecurity, will address how fusion centers, which are rapidly becoming the model for information sharing by security agencies, are shielded from accountability.
