For International Women’s Day 2013, Grassroots Leadership is organizing at a candlelight vigil honoring the lives of women who have died while incarcerated at Dawson State Jail in Dallas and to call on legislators to close this facility. In the past year, reports have surfaced of three incarcerated women who have died from ostensibly preventable causes, and a premature infant lived for only four days after being delivered without medical personnel.

For information on how to join a caravan from Austin, contact Holly Kirby at (512) 499-8111 or hkirby@grassrootsleadership.org. For more information on the jail, contact Kymberlie Quong Charles, kquongcharles@grassrootsleadership.org.
